School Training Platform FAQs

Here you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions about the Diabetes in Schools Training Platform. If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, please contact schools@digibete.org and a member of the team will get back to you. 

What is the School Training Platform and who is it for?
The Schools Training Platform is a free online resource designed for anyone working in a primary or secondary school setting. It provides up-to-date training on supporting children and young people living with Type 1 diabetes.

Developed in partnership with BreakthroughT1D (formerly JDRF) and Diabetes UK, this new training platform replaces the previous JDRF e-learning course. It includes six short, easy-to-follow modules covering key areas such as emotional wellbeing, technology, food management, and physical activity.

To access the training, simply visit www.diabetesinschools.org and register.

How long does the training take?
The full course can take between 1.5 - 2 hours to complete. Once finished, you’ll receive a certificate of completion.

Do I need to complete it all in one go?
No – you can work through the training at your own pace. It’s designed to be flexible and can be completed in short, manageable sections. The system saves your progress and will return you to where you left off.

I haven’t received my verification email – what should I do?
Sometimes school IT systems block external emails. If you haven’t received your verification email after registering:

• Ask your IT team to add www.diabetesinschools.org to the list of trusted websites.
• Ask them to whitelist the email address noreply@diabetesinschools.org so messages can come through.

Do I need to add a hospital association?
You may have been asked by your hospital team to complete this training. When you log in to the training platform for the next time, you will be asked to link your account to a hospital. This allows the hospital team to see who has completed the online training and, where appropriate, follow up with additional or in-person training.

You can also link your account to a hospital at any time by going to ‘Profile’ and selecting ‘Hospital associations’. You can be associated with more than one hospital and can add or remove hospitals whenever needed.

If you are completing the training independently and are not linked to a hospital, simply select “I am not associated with any hospital.”

Does this training count towards CPD?
Yes, the Diabetes in Schools Training Course can contribute towards your Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Once you have completed the course, you will receive a certificate of completion, which you can keep as evidence of your learning and CPD.

Please check with your school or employer if you need to confirm how the training can be recorded as part of your individual CPD requirements.

How do I download my certificate?
After completing the final assessment:

1. Make sure you are logged onto the platform.
2. Go to Courses and select the course you completed.
3. Scroll down to the Final Assessment section. 
4. You’ll see the option to view or download your certificate.
   
   

Can I retake the course and assessment?
Each course is valid for a year. The platform will be refreshed with a new course for retake each academic year. If you are part way through a course when the refreshed course is added, you will still be able to continue with the existing course* and complete the assessment. 

*There will be a time limit for completion of the existing course (30/09/2026) before it is archived. 

If you have not managed to complete the course, you will be required to complete the updated course instead. 

How do I view my course certificate history?
Click on your Profile, then select My Certificates. Here you’ll see a full history of all the courses you have completed and you can download any of your certificates when needed.

Can I see which assessment questions I got wrong, even if I passed the course?
Yes. You can review any questions you answered incorrectly, even if you passed the assessment. Find the relevant course and go to the Final Assessment section, then click View Completion. You’ll see a list of any questions you answered incorrectly. You can then return to the course if you’d like to revisit any of the learning.

Can I complete more than one course?
Yes! You're welcome to explore and complete any of the courses available on the Schools and Community Training Platform.

Can I update my profile, such as email or school name?
Yes. Once logged in, click on the Profile tab at the top of the menu. From there, you can update your email, password, school name, and newsletter preferences.

Where can I download the course resources?
Resources can be downloaded during each module. You can also find them on the Resources page of the platform.

Do I need to do training with the diabetes team?
The Diabetes in Schools Training Course is designed to support school staff and anyone caring for a child or young person living with Type 1 diabetes. It provides an understanding of Type 1 diabetes and helps you learn more about the care and support a child or young person may need while at school. This course provides general awareness training and does not replace individualised training or guidance from the child or young person’s diabetes team.

Any additional or practical training required to meet a child or young person’s individual care needs will be arranged and directed by their diabetes team. If you have questions about this training or the support you need to provide, please contact the diabetes team, who will be able to advise and assist you.

I’m getting a reCAPTCHA error when registering – what should I do?
The reCAPTCHA error is related to anti-spam settings and can be triggered by things like:

• Ad blockers
• VPNs
• Disabled JavaScript
• Cookie restrictions

Try clearing your browser cache or using a different device. If the issue continues, contact us at schools@digibete.org.

The platform is running slowly or shows a ‘504 Gateway Timeout’ – what should I do?
Please let us know by emailing schools@digibete.org. We’ll investigate the issue and aim to resolve it as soon as possible.
